Welcome to the job site! Here is where I hope to put some of
my expertise and training to good use to help you, the
fellow builder and pilot with your dream to build and fly
your own airplane. I would like to give you an overview of
some of the options that may be available to you and that
you can take advantage of. My current tickets and type of
planes I am current in may help you. Tickets include the
following:
Airframe and Powerplant (A&P), ground instructor, CFI
(currently renewing for LSA), Lord willing a LSA instructor
- Light Sport Aircraft.
Aircraft I Have Flown or Tested:
Cessna 150, 152, 172, 182, 180, 185, 210, T210, Bonanza A36,
Grumman Tiger, Taylorcraft, Zenith 601XL (both conventional
and tri-gear), KR2 and 2S, soon to have time in Zenith 701
and Sonex aircraft. Several years experience with Corvair
powered aircraft and engine building as well. Have also
restored and built airplanes and continue to do so .Keep in
mind that I can personalize many of the services to help
fill you particular needs. Here are some of those services:
1. Inspections:
As and A&P mechanic I can help you with condition
inspections and building inspections. Some builders like to
have an A&P check their progress from time to time and give
advise and suggestions as to their workmanship and ideas. An
example of this would be spar inspection on wooden aircraft
or a corvair engine installation in a KR2 or Zenith 601. I
can also do a pre-first flight inspection for you to give
you the greatest chances of a successful first flight and
test period on your new plane. Annual inspection and/or
condition inspections are also available. These inspections
may be of high value to those of you with aircraft similar
to the ones I am current in.
2. Paint and Body:
I have done paint and bodywork on aluminum, fabric, and
composite aircraft. Several examples are Zenith 601s that I
have polished and painted. You can hire me to do this at
your location or just give you a hand in polishing. Some
clients prefer to fly their aircraft here, I disassemble
it, paint it, assemble, and you fly home with a new looking
bird. Most paint projects are arranged as to make it the
most convenient as possible for the client. I can also fly
in and help you lay the paint on a prepared aircraft. Again
- each person has their specific needs so make sure to call
and ask questions.
3. Flight Testing:
I have test flown several aircraft and also helped others in
the successful transition into their new plane. So if you
need me to fly to you airport, do a complete inspection and
test fly your airplane, this is for you. The biggest market
for this is you Zenith 601 guys or gals. I would like to see
you have a smooth transition into the air. After test
flights I can help you with other flight needs and training
to improve your piloting skills and comfort level. Some have
already used me in this fashion and are appreciative of the
fact. One example would be Mark Langford and his KR2S. A few
hours of ground instruction and tips have helped him
accumulate over 300 hours in less than two years and be able
to handle emergencies in the correct manner.
4. Instruction:
After renewing my CFI rating with a LSA ticket I will be
able to train and give dual instruction to many of you that
desire your LSA ticket or just some improvement in your
pilotage skills. This training is one of the most important
available because a competent pilot can handle his aircraft
and flying better than a green one. Don't have the attitude
that "I can handle this - no problem" because most of the
times we discover that we don't do well learning on the fly.
Preparation is key to successful flying and testing.
5. Engine and airframe build clinics:
Some have expressed interest in having me have some engine
clinics at their airports or homes. If you can get a few
people together that would like to see a Corvair powered
plane and get some information and ask questions, maybe I
can help. I've attended and spoken at a few clinics already
and believe this to be a key in the success of a
builder/pilot. Others have expressed and interest in having
me help in airframe building by having a short "how to"
clinic for KR and aluminum aircraft. These may be done at my
shop or at your location.
As you can see, I believe that this gives you, the builder
and pilot, a large resource that you can draw from that may
meet your specific needs. The best way to arrange this is to
contact me via email. I will then draw up a tentative
itinerary and see how I can meet the most people's needs on
a trip. If I can combine trips and If you can have a group
at a location that is ready to learn, that helps us all.
Some services are more specific to the individual of course.
